Sponsored Cycle 2013

A letter from our Principal, Mr Ó hÓbáin…

Dear Parents/Guardians,

This year’s date for our annual 30k sponsored cycle was  Saturday 27th April 2013.

Our new extension of six classrooms and four learning support rooms are now occupied. Everyone is very excited as we can now see the realisation of our dream.  We have beautiful new areas for teaching and learning and for the first time in many years all of us will be “under one roof”.

The Board of Management has borrowed €60,000 to help pay for the building and plans to pay back this loan over the next few years.  Our car-park will also be slightly extended as a condition of planning permission and we hope to install a new drainage system to solve our current flooding problems.

Meanwhile our Parents’ Association have been very actively fundraising to develop a playground or “outdoor P.E. facility” in the school.  We hope to have enough money to begin this project this spring/summer and also to resurface one of our yards/playgrounds.  We are currently testing a synthetic grass product to ascertain it’s suitability for this project.

The Board of Management and Parents’ Association are co-ordinating their fundraising efforts and will be launching some major initiatives in the coming weeks.

The annual Sponsored Cycle was an excellent vehicle for launching our fundraising campaign.  Last year we had over 70 cyclists and we raised €11,000!  This year we had over 80 participants.

We’re collecting the sponsorship money this week and hope we can do even better than last year.  Sincere thanks to everyone who took part on Saturday the 27th and to those who took a sponsorship card in the name of a friend or a teacher.

The route was a circuit of Ashbourne-Garristown-Ardcath- Rath Cross-Ashbourne and we made plans regarding road safety, water stations etc.

Most of all we were so glad that those who took part really ENJOYED  THEMSELVES. The sun shone on Saturday and there was a great sense of achievement when we all arrived back at the school and were sitting down to a cup of tea and a sandwich!!

Thanks to the Parents’ Association and teachers who laid on a wonderful spread. Great team-work!

Well done and THANK YOU!!! Check out the pictures below…
